At last some paw-sitive news in the wake of South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s story about how she shot and killed her 14-month-old “untrainable” puppy Cricket at a gravel pit.
We now have a bipartisan Congressional Dog Lovers Caucus. Reps. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Susan Wild (D-PA) formed the caucus on Thursday.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Moskowitz wrote:
“In light of recent events, we’re launching the Congressional Dog Lovers Caucus today! This group dedicated to man’s best friend aims to foster bipartisan cooperation and will help put paws over politics.”
In a press release, the three House members said the CDLC “will serve as an informal, bipartisan group of Members and staff dedicated to their shared love of dogs for the companionship, friendship, family, and health benefits they provide.”
“Dogs are the only thing on earth that loves you more than they love themselves,” Moskowitz said in the press release. “Their joy to live brings together Americans from all walks of life and can help nourish bipartisanship in Congress.”
He added that House members on both sides of the aisle “reject animal cruelty and support protecting man’s best friend.”
And Mace said in the statement “We started this caucus to champion legislation that protects the rights and well-being of dogs, ensuring they receive the care, respect, and recognition they deserve,”
And Wild added: “Few things unite Americans as much as our love for our dogs.”
As for Noem, she certainly picked the right title for her new book, “No Going Back,” in which she wrote about killing Cricket after the pup ruined a pheasant hunt and then killed a neighbor’s chickens. Noem wrote: “I hated that dog.”
Cruella de Noem went on Fox News’ “Hannity” Wednesday night, and when she got through, poor Cricket ended up resembling Stephen King’s killer Saint Bernard Cujo.
“It was a dog that was extremely dangerous,” Noem told host Sean Hannity. “It had come to us from a family who had found her way too aggressive.”
“We were her second chance. And she was — the day she was put down was a day that she massacred livestock that were part of our neighbors’,” she continued. “She attacked me. And it was a hard decision.”
“[I] had a choice between keeping my small children and other people safe, or a dangerous animal, and I chose the safety of my children,” Noem said.
Hannity, of course, had to get in a dig at President Joe Biden so he talked about the Bidens’ German shepherd pup Commander who repeatedly bit members of the president’s Secret Service detail. Biden didn’t have Commander shot, but the dog was removed from the White House and is reportedly living with other family members.
Hannity ended the interview by encouraging his viewers to purchase Noem’s book.
Noem is expected to attend the Republican National Committee’s spring donor retreat which is being held over the weekend at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. The list of “special guests” reads like a shortlist of Trump’s potential running mates, including Sens. J.D. Vance of Ohio and Tim Scott of South Carolina as well as Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York.
Jjust days before forming the Congressional Dog Lovers Caucus, Moskowitz posted this video on X, and no one in Congress trolls better than Jared.
